Dear DuVall Families,
Thank you to all of the parents that participated in Career Week. The kids (and teachers) really enjoyed learning about different careers. We appreciate you giving up your time to volunteer! Thank you to DHS sophomore, Mahdi Nassrallah for organizing this event for us.
I am in need of about four students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the March 10 Board of Education meeting. Students would need to be at ASC about 6:45 and should be finished around 7:15. The first parents to contact me will be the students chosen. Thank you
We currently have two noon hour supervisors that work all five days and two that share the week. We need one more person that can work all five days. You will also need a physical but can start before that has been completed.
This week’s notes:
- Friday, February 28 our girls basketball teams will play at home at 5:00 and 6:00. At 4:45 we will award our boys basketball teams with their medals. Boys are asked to wear their jersey tops with jeans or long pants. Our music club will also sing the National Anthem.
- Our twilight dinner is scheduled for March 7. Letters will be going home on Monday. The cost is $10. Per person with a maximum of $30. per family.
- Last week’s Parent Education Meeting was on UFLI. The link to the presentation can be found at: UFLI Parent Meeting Our next meeting will be Thursday, March 20 at 9:05. The topic will be M-Step so the meeting will primarily be for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade parents.
- Shamrock Shuffle information will be sent home soon. The date will probably be Sunday, March 16.
- 5th Grade: STEM admission requirements: 80th percentile on 5th grade spring iReady (Reading and Math), and advanced or proficient on the 4th grade ELA and math M-STEP tests. There is a lottery amongst all those that qualify from all schools.
- Caregivers and children ages six months through 4 years are invited to a free Parent University session on Feb. 28. The carnival-themed program will include activities for children and tips for parents to help kids develop the skills they need to be strong students. Sessions will be from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at Cotter, Henry Ford Elementary, and River Oaks Elementary. A session at Salina Elementary will run from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Parents and guardians are asked to pre-register by emailing bassj@dearbornschools.org. Preregistering ensures we have enough materials for all the families. See the Parent University flier here.
- DuVall will have summer school provided there is enough enrollment. If we do not have enough then our students will be placed at another school. It is our hope that we have enough students to have it here. This is a free program.
- We are collecting donations, both monetary and prizes of any kind for our Ice Cream Social. Please be as generous as possible.

- Coming soon – This year’s Mini Martian Marathon will be held Saturday April 12th at Ford Field in Dearborn. There is a cost to join the team of $23 if registered before March 11th (price goes up after that date). Each participant will receive a t-shirt, medal,and inflatable alien as a member of our team.
