DuVall Elementary School

Principal Bio

Dear DuVall families,

I am excited to begin my second year at DuVall. Last year was successful in many ways. We celebrated our 100th anniversary in May, we added window graphics to the front of school, replaced the shoe boards and top shelves by our coat hooks, added a hydration station in our gym, and added S.T.E.A.M. to our weekly curriculum. This summer we added some grass to our playground, replaced much of our blacktop in the back, completed our book room and had the large tree in front of school removed because it was causing plumbing problems. Over the next 12 months we will have a crew working on installing new ceilings, lightings, boilers, and adding air conditioning to our wonderful school. All of this but the most important thing we have done is care for our children. Their emotional, physical, and academic needs are all important to us. We do whatever it takes to make our students successful. Academically, on the 2022 M-Step, our students scored higher than the district average in all areas, 3rd grade ELA, 3rd grade math, 4th grade ELA, 4th grade math, 5th grade ELA, 5th grade math, 5th grade science, and 5th grade social studies. This is attributed to our wonderful, harding working students, staff, and parents.

Personally, my experience began 37 years ago at St. Christopher School in Detroit where I taught for 4 years. I then moved to Herman Elementary in Detroit for 7 years before coming to Dearborn Public Schools. I taught at Salina Elementary for 8 years and Geer Park Elementary for 15 before becoming the Assistant Principal at Henry Ford Elementary last year. During my teaching years, I served as a classroom and enrichment teacher in all grades K-8, and as an instructional coach.

I am a proud graduate of Fordson High School and received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan. A few years ago I decided to return to school to obtain an Administrator’s Certificate, which I completed at Lamar University. My husband, Don, and I have been married for 33 years. He is the Facilities Manager at St. Frances Cabrini in Allen Park. We have two children who both graduated from Edsel Ford High School. Megan is now an ELA teacher at O.L. Smith and Benjamin works for the U.S. Senate.

During the course of the year, I will work together with you and our staff to provide the students of DuVall the best education possible and a healthy, safe environment.  My goal is to provide an environment where everyone feels welcome and is happy to come to everyday.  My door is always open and I welcome your input.

I look forward to a wonderful year and working with you and your child.
