Dear DuVall Community,
As we get ready to gather as a community and celebrate Halloween at our school this evening, I want to share accurate information with everyone regarding a situation that occurred this week.
On Wednesday a second grade student had written names of classmates on a piece of paper and said these were classmates the student wanted to harm. This was written as a “kill list” however after careful investigation, it became clear that this list was more of a “harm list” and there was no plan or intent to act upon it.
Nonetheless, this was a very serious incident and we acted to address the situation with the student and family. We took appropriate actions, involved law enforcement, and appropriate professionals to ensure that this behavior was addressed and the safety of the school was maintained. I also spoke directly with the students in the classroom and communication was sent to the families involved.
This is the type of situation that can get amplified or miscommunicated and that is why I’m sharing this with our entire community. My intent is not to upset or escalate what has occurred but to make you aware of the facts related to an isolated incident in a classroom.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at tonight’s event,
Regards,
Mary Timpf
