Dear DuVall Families,
Unfortunately, we did not have enough students sign-up to attend camp. For the first time in years (minus Covid years), DuVall will not be going to camp. If you submitted a deposit, it should have been returned last week.
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! DuVall has the best teachers! Many thanks to our PTA for helping to celebrate our teachers. If you and your child would like to celebrate our teachers, please remember our special area teachers and support staff. We have so many wonderful educators that support our students. Our PTA has created the following schedule: Monday – draw a picture of a flower/plant or bring your teacher(s) a real flower/plant, Tuesday – have your child give compliments and high fives to their teacher(s) all day, Wednesday – have your child wear their teacher’s favorite color, Thursday – draw a picture for your teacher(s), make them a card, or write them a note (parents can write a note too!), Friday – bring your teacher(s) their favorite snack. - Family Kickball, Saturday @ 1:00pm at Summer Stephens Park (The baseball field) Cost: $5.00 per person, includes a halal hotdog, beverage, a bag of chips and cookies. - We found a brown and black adult flannel shirt. In the pocket is a pair of earbuds and a check made payable to a company called 1027. If this is yours please pick it up from the office.
- Parents are needed for field day to run an activity on Thursday May 23rd. K-2 9:30-11:00 and/or 3rd-5th 1:30-3:00. Thank you for helping to support this event. Mr. Tapp
- DuVall Depot will have a sale of things they have made after school on May 10. The money will be donated to a charity that the students will vote on. Some items may be nice gifts for Mothers Day.
- Please remember to put a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. We are in rainy season and as much as we try to keep the kids away from the water, it seems like one or two kids will find it.
- The 5th grade instrumental concert has been changed to Wednesday, May 22 at 4:30.
- Eastern Michigan University Football Student Voucher Program, 2 free tickets to the game on Saturday 9/21/24 and/or Saturday 11/2/24 with purchase of 1 discounted $8 ticket. Students will get the opportunity to be a part of a chalk talk with a non football student athlete 1 hour before the game. In this talk they will talk about the importance of education and academics and how it got them to where they are. Whichever school that has families claim the most tickets will earn a $1000 donation from our department. - Fifth grade parents: STEM invitations were sent out on May 1st. DuVall has three students invited. If you think you should have received an invitation and didn’t, please contact me and I will verify your child’s assessment scores.
- Graduating seniors that attended DuVall for elementary school are invited to lead our 5th graders in their clap out that occurs right before their promotion ceremony. This is scheduled for Friday, June 7th at 9:45 with the ceremony at 10:00. We are asking that all seniors arrive at DuVall about 9:30 in their caps and gowns. Please pass the word!
Important Information Repeated:
- GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) Preschool applications for 2024-2025 are available at DuVall. If your child will be 4 before December 1, 2024 he/she is eligible. This free program runs Monday thru Thursday, 8:35-3:20 during the school year. DuVall has one classroom with 16 students. There are other classrooms at nearby schools as well. If you are interested stop by the DuVall office for an application and to schedule a registration date and time. You can also call Cotter at 313-827-6150 to ask any questions you may have.
- Thursday May 23rd will be Field Day at Summer Stephens Park. Permission slips will be going home in early May for this event. We are looking for parent helpers to run stations from 9:15-10:45 or from 2:00-3:15 (both if possible). Thank you in advance for your support.
- Our Ice Cream Social will be here before you know it! We are requesting donations to help cut our costs and create more profits. Please click on this Sign-Up Genius link to donate items. - Teachers should have been asking for items or monetary donations to complete their class basket for Ice Cream Social. PLEASE support them with this request, if you are able. Teachers often support whatever part of the basket the class doesn’t donate for. It is easier for 20 students to each donate one item or a small donation then it is for one person to create the entire basket.
