DuVall Elementary School

Week of April 22-26

Dear DuVall Families,

Thank you and Happy Administrative Professionals Day Mrs. Jen Schulte, Ms. Bobbie Cagle, and Mrs. Nadia Bazzi. Mrs. Jen and Ms. Bobbie keep our school running smoothly and is who most of you speak to when needing information or assistance. I don’t know what I would do without them! They are fabulous, knowledgeable, and keep me on track. Mrs. Bazzi does the same for our Media Center. If you see any of these ladies this week please offer your thanks for all that they do.

Reminder: If your child will be attending summer school, please bring the application into school yourself. If you are unable to come in, send in the application and call the office. Without a conversation your application will not be considered submitted. This is a district requirement.

Congratulations to Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Moon, Mrs. Press, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Alabakoff, Ms. Rafferty, Mrs. Manwell, Mr. Tapp, Mrs. Ross, and Ms. Stupar for being nominated for Teacher of the Year!

I am very sad to report that our Holiday Shops are in jeopardy of not being scheduled next year. The reason for this possibility is over $100 of merchandise was stolen at our recent shop. This is very disappointing. Please talk with your child about doing the right thing.

I am very excited to attend Friday night’s Talent Show. I hope to see you there!

This week’s notes:

  • Our District Special Education PTA is asking everyone to wear blue during April and May to show your support of Autism Awareness Month. As a school we will be wearing blue on Wednesday, April 24th. If your child would like to donate $1.00 to support field day for our special education students they can bring it in any day next week.
  • Thank you! Our attendance during M-Step on testing days has been outstanding. Please keep it up! The schedule is below for this week’s testing days.
  • DHS theater- Click here to purchase tickets to a meet and greet with the characters from their upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast🌹 Belle is played by a DuVall alumni, Eliana Quesada.
  • Camp interest notes went home last week. Please carefully read the note and return it to your child’s current teacher. This note should be returned if your child is going to camp or not. There is a place to check this information off. All slips should be in by Wednesday, May 1.  The website to see the camp is www.leelanau-kohahna.org  If you have any questions, email Ms. Courtright, Mrs. Ranka or Mrs. Timpf.
  • Teachers should have been asking for items or monetary donations to complete their class basket for Ice Cream Social. PLEASE support them with this request, if you are able. Teachers often support whatever part of the basket the class doesn’t donate for. It is easier for 20 students to each donate one item or a small donation then it is for one person to create the entire basket.
  • May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our PTA always does a great job showing our teachers how much they are loved and appreciated. If you would like to help them out with supplying an item or two, a sign-up will be provided soon. If you child would like to recognize his/her teacher directly, you can view the teachers’ favorites list at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14t4_AptDMJAKRVisq0vhibmvusNsyrVXGpjnwOqP8e8/edit?usp=sharing

Important notes repeated:

  • M-Step, students may wear pajamas or whatever school appropriate, comfortable clothes they choose. They may also bring a small pillow to sit on if this will make them more comfortable. The fifth graders asked for these accommodations so they have been approved for all students on their testing days. Testing dates are listed on the calendar below.
  • If you know of high school seniors that attended DuVall, we will be inviting them to lead our fifth graders in the clap-out on June 7 that precedes their promotion ceremony. Please help spread the word.
  • Family Kickball, May 11, 2024 @ 1:00pm at Summer Stephens Park (The baseball field) Cost: $ 5.00 per person, includes a halal hotdog, beverage, a bag of chips and cookies. This event is for the families of Kindergarteners, 1st graders and 2nd graders. The DuVall PTA hosts 2 kickball events a year, the 3rd-5th game was at the beginning of the year. Look for the flier to come home later this week. To donate, please click here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084DACAE28A7F8C61-48846254-family
  • Students can still purchase Ambassador coupon books by coming to the office. The cost is $7.00 or 2 for $10.00. Coupons include $1.00 off at the school store, free popcorn, extra recess, no homework, bring a stuffy to school, and more! Money raised goes toward our Ga-Ga Ball Pit.
  • Our Ice Cream Social will be here before you know it! We are requesting donations to help cut our costs and create more profits. Please click on this Sign-Up Genius link to donate items. If you have items that will not expire before May 31 we are happy to store them so you can drop them off anytime. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084DACAE28A7F8C61-47224485-icecream
