DuVall Elementary School

Week of December 18-22

Dear DuVall Families,

Thank you to everyone who donated hats, gloves, scarves, Veterans items, etc. All of the items will be passed onto those in need this week. You have truly demonstrated our December/January Penguin Practice of generosity. Thank you for being a constant, positive role model for our children. We will continue to collect veterans items through Wednesday. We will also collect any sweatpants, sweatshirts, hoodies, and colored tee shirts of all sizes for men and women for the veterans. For those that have been at DuVall this fundraiser is taking place of the fruit trays that DuVall used to do. Mrs. Strez is coming back to help as well. Costco also donated $100. to help and Meijer donated $1,000. to purchase needed items. Many thanks to these stores.

Our Poinsettia orders are due by 11:00 on Monday morning. January 4-7 at Little Caesar’s Arena Cirque du Soleli Crystal will be performing and February 15-17 is Disney on Ice. If you are attending either of these events, please order your tickets through this link: WWW.313PROMOS.COM/DUVALL For every ticket purchased through this special fundraiser promotion, a portion of the proceeds will go directly towards benefiting DuVall Elementary School. It’s a win-win situation – you get to enjoy a spectacular show, and the students of DuVall Elementary receive the support they need for a brighter future. Gather your friends, invite your neighbors, and come together as a community to make a difference while having an enchanting experience at Cirque Crystal and Disney on Ice with 313 Presents! Questions contact Dana at 313.471.3287 or email dana.langs@313presents.com  Tickets make a great gift!

Please remember to follow ALL traffic laws. It seems like most of the trouble is occurring with those that arrive after 8:55 in the morning and between 3:55-4:05 after school. PLEASE put our children’s safety above your convenience.

Please complete this survey that will ask you questions about our school, including questions about Open House schedules, culture and climate, student engagement, school environment, and school safety. The results of this survey will be used to help us improve our program’s services to students, families, and our community.  Your responses are anonymous, and no individual results are reported. Thank you for your support. The survey will remain open until Friday, December 22, 2023. Click on this link to take the survey: Parent/Family Survey Link. A video to explain the survey is linked here.

This week’s notes:

  • Our annual Sing Along is Friday, December 22nd at 3:00. All are invited to join us.
  • We will have a parent meeting on January 23, 9:10-10:00 in the Media Center. The topic is Essential Standards: What is My Child Learning?
  • The other parent meetings will be February 6 (DuVall’s School Improvement Plan), March 5 (Student Health), April 2 (M-Step), April 30 (How to help my child at home).
  • We will also have our Parent Book Club beginning in January. We will meet on the second Wednesday of every month, for four months. Parents will be given the book, No-Drama Discipline by Daniel Siegel and Tina Bryson. We will cover one to two chapters each month.
  • The Mobile Dentist will be here on February 21st. More information will follow.
  • We have great news for your parents and staff! The Michigan Child Protection Registry has added more apps to keep kids safe from being targeted by adult ads while on their devices.  Districts across Michigan, like yours, always ask – How can we help our families keep their children safe while online? One resource that is extremely important to make parents aware of is the Michigan Child Protection Registry. This Registry is a do-not-contact service that families can easily and quickly sign up for at www.ProtectMIChild.com in order to keep their children safe while on their devices at school and at home. This is a free Registry offered through the State of Michigan that stops adult advertisements from reaching our kids through e-mail, text, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Discord, Twitch and TikTok. This Registry is an excellent resource for making sure our kids aren’t being served ads for alcohol, tobacco/vaping, online gambling, pornography or marijuana.
  • Running Club is canceled this week.
  • We have DuVall coffee mugs and ornaments for sale in the office for $10.00. These make great gifts for alumni and current DuVall families.
  • 5th Grade Parents: Mark your calendars, OL Smith will visit our fifth graders at DuVall on April 3rd. May 9th, 6:00-7:00 is 6th Grade Orientation at OL Smith. Click here to view the flier: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BwNwiKUDUuUz_s1x9DrezBrMnV_bxvrHGbs3gpJ-xjc/edit?usp=sharing

Have a great week!
