Dear DuVall families,
I am excited to begin my third year at DuVall. We are at the end of the construction progress of installing new ceilings, lightings, boilers, and adding air conditioning to our wonderful school. They have also reseeded the grass areas that we added last summer. We will continue to make improvements to our building as they are needed. The most important thing we do is care for our children. Their emotional, physical, and academic needs are all important to us. We do whatever it takes to make our students successful. Academically, on the 2022 M-Step, our students scored higher than the district average in all areas, 3rd grade ELA, 3rd grade math, 4th grade ELA, 4th grade math, 5th grade ELA, 5th grade math, 5th grade science, and 5th grade social studies. This is attributed to our wonderful, harding working students, staff, and parents. 2023 results will be available soon.
Personally, my experience began 38 years ago at St. Christopher School in Detroit where I taught for 4 years. I then moved to Herman Elementary in Detroit for 7 years before coming to Dearborn Public Schools. I taught at Salina Elementary for 8 years and Geer Park Elementary for 15 before becoming the Assistant Principal at Henry Ford Elementary for one year. My journey then brought me to DuVall in 2021. During my teaching years, I served as a classroom and enrichment teacher in all grades K-8, and as an instructional coach. As I begin my 39 year I reflect and appreciate all of the wonderful mentors, students, and parents I have worked with. Our DuVall family is at the top of this list as we have such an outstanding staff and community.
I am a proud graduate of Fordson High School and received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan. A few years ago I decided to return to school to obtain an Administrator’s Certificate, which I completed at Lamar University. My husband, Don, and I have been married for 35 years. He is the Facilities Manager at St. Frances Cabrini in Allen Park. We have two children who both graduated from Edsel Ford High School. Megan is beginning her ninth year in education and will be an ELA instruction coach at Salina Middle School. Our son Benjamin works for the U.S. Senate.
During the course of the year, I will work together with you and our staff to provide the students of DuVall the best education possible and a healthy, safe environment. My goal is to provide an environment where everyone feels welcome and is happy to come to everyday. My door is always open and I welcome your input.
I look forward to a wonderful year and working with you and your child.
