Dear DuVall Families,

I am excited to begin my fifth year as Principal of DuVall Elementary! At DuVall, the most important thing we do is care for our children. Their emotional, physical, and academic needs are all priorities, and we work together to do whatever it takes to help our students succeed. On the 2025 M-Step, our students scored above the district average in every subject—an accomplishment made possible by our hardworking students, dedicated staff, and supportive parents. The state averages are not available but I am sue our scores sore above that as well.

My journey in education began 40 years ago at St. Christopher School in Detroit, where I taught for four years. I then moved to Herman Elementary in Detroit for seven years before joining Dearborn Public Schools. I taught at Salina Elementary for eight years and Geer Park Elementary for 15 years before serving as Assistant Principal at Henry Ford Elementary. In 2021, I was honored to become Principal of DuVall. Throughout my career, I have served as a classroom teacher, enrichment teacher (K–8), and instructional coach. As I reflect on these experiences, I am especially grateful for the mentors, students, and families I have learned from along the way—with the DuVall community at the very top of that list.

I am a proud graduate of Fordson High School and earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan University. Later, I pursued my Administrator’s Certificate at Lamar University.

My husband, Don, and I have been married for 36 years. He currently serves as the Facilities Manager at St. Frances Cabrini in Allen Park. We are proud parents of two children, both graduates of Edsel Ford High School: our daughter Megan, now in her 11th year as an educator and working as an ELA instructional coach at Salina Middle School, and our son Benjamin, who works for the U.S. Senate.

This school year, I look forward to working closely with you and our staff to provide every student with the best education possible in a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment. My goal is to make sure every child and family feels valued and excited to come to school each day. My door is always open, and I welcome your thoughts and input.

Together, I know we will make this a wonderful year for our students.

Mary Timpf
