The state of Michigan requires through the Read by Third Grade Law, that every school has a read at home plan. Please see below for the requirements of your child’s class.

Kindergarten: The beginning of the school year students will build stamina listening to stories and a love for books by reading with/listening to an adult for 15 to 20 minutes each evening. As the year progresses they will be given take-home reading packs with needed phonic skill activities for individualized practice.  Further into the year students will have small books to practice reading at night for 15-20 min.

First Grade: Students are to read for 20 minutes each night either with a parent, sibling or someone they live with. They should be reading book bag books and/or fun choice books.

Second Grade: Read 20 minutes each night. Students get book packs that go home and sometimes have 1 to 2 constructed responses to complete throughout the week, or a specific task they will complete depending on the essential standard that was the focus of the lesson. For example, ask a question and write it on a post it in your book to bring back for next time.
