DuVall Elementary School

Week of January 20-24

Dear DuVall Families,

PLEASE, do not block driveways and alleys on any street around school. We try to have a positive, respectful relationship with our neighbors. Last week a parent was asked to move his truck so a neighbor could pull out of the alley and he refused. I received a picture of the license plate and it was given to our school resource officer, Dearborn Police Officer Lemus.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated for our Pancake Dinner. A huge thank you to Al and Liridona Ala of TaylorTown Coney Island and DuVall parents for donating all of the food and doing all of the cooking! We cannot say thank you enough for your generosity!

Thank you Joanne Rafferty for signing up for next week’s popcorn day. We need parents to sign up for February Popcorn Days. Sign up at: Popcorn Sign-Up

We have not gotten official word, however, it is looking like we will have summer school similar to last year. My hope is that DuVall has enough students enrolled that we can hold it at our school instead of our students having to attend another school. As soon as I get the green light I can share more details with you. Until then, please let me know if you have any questions.

Our Career Week is being organized by DHS sophomore, Mahdi Nassrallah. Here is a message from him:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to announce our upcoming Career Week, taking place from February 18 to February 21, 2025, and we would love your involvement!

Career Week is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about various professions, gain inspiration, and connect their education to real-world opportunities. By sharing your career journey, insights, and experiences, you can help spark curiosity and motivate our students to explore their own future paths.

If you’re interested in participating, simply sign up by clicking the link below. You’ll be able to select the day and time that works best for you within the Career Week timeframe. Once we receive your submission, we will reach out to schedule your visit with the teacher who selected your presentation for their classroom.

Press here!

Thank you for helping us create a meaningful and engaging experience for our students. Your time and expertise make a lasting difference! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

We look forward to seeing the amazing contributions our parents and guardians will bring to Career Week!

This week’s notes and reminders:

  • Our monthly Parent Education meeting is Thursday at 9:00 in the Media Center. We will have a guest speaker who will be joining us via Zoom. Donald Ferguson from OK2Say will be speaking about student safety. OK2Say is a student safety program that allows to confidentially report tips on potential harm and focuses on early intervention and prevention through awareness and education. Parents who attend will receive a Penguin Point and a book or card game for their children. Parents can attend in the Media Center or on ZZoom. Login info is in the schedule below.
  • Signing students out early: If you are picking your child up early do not pick up after 3:30, 2:00 on Early Release days. When you come after these times it significantly causes trouble for the teacher and by the time your child gets to the office it’s the end of the day anyway.
  • Breakfast is served 8:35-8:55. Students should enter through door 1 if they are coming for breakfast. If your child is not going to breakfast they should arrive 8:50-8:55. No one is available to supervise students before 8:50.
  • Students must wear boots and snow pants if they want to play on the playground and in the snow. If they do not have both, they will have to remain on the blacktop. Students are not allowed to throw snowballs at school.
  • The office no longer has snacks. Students must bring their own snack. All classes have one snack a day and some classes have two snacks during the day.

Important notes worth repeating:

  • The Early Learning Coalition of Dearborn is requesting followers on their Facebook and Instagram pages. There are cards at the doors with QR codes to go directly to their sites or search them by name on the social media sites.
  • PLEASE, put a change of clothes in your child’s backpack, especially grades K-2.
  • If you need to contact anyone regarding our Ice Cream Social please email: duvallicecreamsocial@gmail.com
