Dear DuVall Families,
There are some changes in our weekly schedule in order to accommodate our basketball program and our coaches. Without these changes we would be without coaches. Boys basketball begins the week of December 2nd. There is no change to our 4th grade boys practice schedule. Third grade will practice at 4:00 on Thursdays and 5th grade will practice on Tuesdays. Penguin Players is also moving to Wednesdays.
We invited Zanib Sarieni, our district DEI Lead Facilitator, to speak to our 1st-5th grade classes about the importance of the words we use through her presentation, “Words Matter.” This initiative is in response to an increase in unkind, intimidating language and bullying, which has led to heightened consequences. We need your support in teaching your children what is acceptable, as words are not jokes and have significant impacts. Please note that suspensions and behavioral incidents are documented and remain on students’ permanent records through twelfth grade. Additionally, while we understand there may be curiosity about consequences given to others, please note that we cannot share this information, and what your child reports about another student’s consequences may not be accurate. We appreciate your partnership in fostering a respectful and safe environment for all students.
Happy Thanksgiving! As we celebrate this season of gratitude, I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families that make our school such a special place. May your holiday be filled with joy and cherished moments with family and friends.
This week’s notes and reminders:
- There is no school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
- We no longer have access to our school blogs unless we are on school wifi. This means I will have to send the weekly blog post and text on the last day of the school week or on Monday. If I am sending it on Monday I will still send the email on Sunday to help families prepare for the week.

- We need someone to help pop popcorn on December 20 and January 10. Click here to sign up: Popcorn Sign-Up We also need people for dates further into the year.
- PLEASE, put a change of clothes in your child’s backpack, especially grades K-2.
- If anyone has any clothes, especially sweatpants and in sizes for younger children, our office could use them. We keep them to change students that need a new set of clothes that do not have clothes in their backpack.
- If your child comes home in clothes provided from the office, please wash them and return them to the office.
- Monday, November 2 at 4:00 will be a safety meeting.
- If you are a Black Friday shopper, consider picking up a donation for our May Ice Cream Social. Each class is asked to donate a basket. Ask your child’s teacher the theme of their basket and pick something up to donate.
