Playground Graffiti

September 16, 2024

Greetings DuVall Community,

I wanted to take a moment to share with all of you information regarding graffiti found on our property today.

On Monday morning we discovered an inappropriate message written on the ground in our playground. Some of you may have seen the message as I have been told that a local news station shared a drone video of the message. Although there was no detail or specific threat directed at DuVall the message did contain profanity and used threatening words.

Upon discovering the graffiti we contacted our Safety and Security team and Dearborn Police.  We must, and do, take any message that contains threatening or violent words very seriously and all efforts are being made to identify the person(s) who may have written the message. Again, there was not a specific threat to our school, but the generic message did contain violent words.

It is important to know that there are serious consequences for writing messages that contain threats of violence. We are fortunate to have an excellent relationship with Dearborn Police and they always go above and beyond to investigate these types of messages. They have been successful many times identifying the person(s) responsible. If the person(s) responsible for the message found today at DuVall is a Dearborn Public Schools student, we will follow our student discipline process as well as any legal action that may be appropriate.

As a school, and as a community, we must continue to work together and keep an open line of communications to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all in our neighborhood.  All of us here at DuVall are dedicated to ensuring our school remains the very best place for your children to grow, thrive, and learn.

I am available if you have further questions.

Regards,

Mary Timpf
