DuVall Elementary School

Week of September 16-20

Dear DuVall Families,

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and attended Friday’s Movie Night. It was a great event and a lot of fun. It was wonderful to see our students smiling, laughing, and playing. Parents enjoyed conversations and meeting new parents, and we had lots of alumni that showed they still have Penguin Pride. A special thank you to Matt Schulte for running the projector and sound for the movie. Another special thank you to our PTA for all that they did to help make the evening a great one. One last thank you goes to everyone! At the end of the evening, the playground was clean of trash. Everyone used the trash cans and cleaned up. I appreciate this more than you know. Once again, you were great role models for our children.

Thank you to everyone who attended Wednesday’s PTA meeting. We had a great turnout! The remainder of our meetings should be much shorter. The first one is always the longest due to by-laws and budget review. If you were unable to make it our secretary, Michelle Linderman, emailed the notes out to all PTA members. If you are not a member and would like to become one there are membership forms in the office.

Parents, PLEASE do not park on the street on Fridays. Our neighbors are upset when their garbage is not picked up because a car is blocking their garbage cans. This also causes problems when the streets are cleaned and when leaves are picked up. Oftentimes, our police department issues tickets. I don’t want anyone to have this consequence. Please follow ALL traffic and parking laws. Our playground gates are open on Friday for parking. Military also has a long stretch that is still street parking but there are no homes along our playground. Thank you for your cooperation.

I love seeing the notes so many parents write and put in their child’s lunches. The smiles on their faces is priceless. We also have notes in the office. If you are in the office take a minute to write your child a note. We will put it on their desk and it’s a nice surprise for them. Staff also appreciate receiving notes.

Thank you Mary Burr and Ursula Pinon for popping popcorn last week! The kids loved it.

This week’s notes:

  • I looked through our Lost & Found, which is growing daily, and found one item with a student’s name on it. I was able to return that one item. Please write your child’s name on their lunchboxes, water bottles, and jackets so we can return things when they are found.
  • PLEASE, turn in your CEP forms if you haven’t already. We really appreciate your willingness to complete this form, as it benefits all of our students and determines our funding. We only need 21 more families to complete it.
  • The City of Dearborn is in need of Crossing Guards. If you are interested in applying for this position, click on this link: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/dearbornmi/jobs/4183806/school-traffic-attendant-pt DuVall is not one of the schools in need of a crossing guard.
  • Fourth Grade parents, here is a link for free family trips. Click here for information: https://everykidoutdoors.gov/index.htm?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=The%20Story%20Board%3A%20September%202024&utm_campaign=2024%20Sep%2012%20-%20September%20Story%20Board
  • Coming soon!  DuVall will be participating in the Walk and Roll to school Day on Wednesday October 9th. The goal is to get as many students that are within walking or riding distance to walk or ride bikes to school that morning. This is a great way to show our commitment to physical activity. A couple of years ago we won the bike repair station that we have. We have also had a couple of students win bikes!
  • Our 4th and 5th graders will be testing on the mile run to see how many students qualify to race for our school in the Cipriano Run on Tuesday November 5th against the other Dearborn elementary schools.
  • PLEASE remember to put a change of clothes in your child’s backpack.
  • Picture Day will be Friday, October 4th. Spring pictures will be Thursday, April 24th.
