DuVall Elementary School

Week of May 13-17

Dear DuVall Families,

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful DuVall moms and grandmoms! You are absolutely the BEST!!!

THANK YOU to all of our families that recognized Teacher Appreciation Week! The teachers are I felt so loved and appreciated. Our PTA and so many students and families showered us with beautiful cards, pictures, flowers, chocolates, and gifts. Thank you for always being so supportive and kind. A special thanks to Mrs. Hammoud for providing smoothies and Mr. Majed for providing lunch.

Thank you Mr & Mrs. Schuchert for organizing our Family Kickball game on Saturday. Despite the chilly weather everyone had a great time! Thank you Mrs. Noles for grilling, Mr. Woodruff and Mr. Schuchert for pitching,, and all of the parents that participated and helped out.

We only have one person who has signed up for popcorn this week and no one for next week. We need two people each time. If we cannot fill these open spots Popcorn will be cancelled. These are the last popcorn days for the year. Sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A4AABAE22A46-duvall#/

Please do your best to support our Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser. Dine in or carry out all day from the Dearborn location. Our PTA will receive 20% of your total bill. I will be there around 6:00 . I hope to see many of you! Extra fliers are available in the office. Please remember to show your server the flier.

Our last PTA meeting of the year is this Wednesday at 6:30. We will be electing officers for next year and discussing our Ice Cream Social and talking about our end of the year activities. Please try to attend either in person or on Zoom: https://dearbornschools-org.zoom.us/j/84668662958?pwd=cGFDWDNJRE5ERW02czJrL2U1bTkxQT09

You can still enroll in summer school! You will register here at DuVall but our students will be bused to Whitmore Bolles. If you registered your child for summer school and have decided against him/her attending due to the change of location please call our office and let us know. This will help Whitmore Bolles with staffing. Busing will be provided for all DuVall students. If you are already a bus student nothing will change except you will be taken to Whitmore Bolles. If you are not currently a bus student you will be picked up at DuVall and taken to Whitmore Bolles. If you want your child to participate in the child care, 2:30-4:00 you will have to pick them up from W.B. no busing will occur after the 2:30 dismissal. Our teachers that have chosen to work summer school have not been placed. We are hoping that at least 1 or 2 of them will be placed at W.B.

This week’s notes:

  • Our cafeteria stops serving breakfast at 8:55 every morning. The only students that may have breakfast after that is our students who ride the bus on days the bus is late. Some of our students are trying to go to breakfast at 8:55 so they can get out of class.
  •  Educare is a Dearborn tutoring service founded in 2009. They offer a variety of tutoring services including ACT/SAT tutoring, after-school tutoring, reading and math programs, and private tutoring. For more information please call the number on the fliers. Click here to view the fliers in English and Arabic.

  • The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Detroit Section is pleased to announce our 16th annual Girls’ Engineering Exploration (GEE) Day on Saturday, June 15, 2024. This year’s open house style event will be held indoors at College for Creative Studies – Taubman Center from 10AM – 2PM. The free event, with lunch provided, is a part of SWE’s continuous effort to educate girls about the endless career opportunities that the engineering field has to offer. GEE is open to 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grade girls. Students will be able to do hands-on activities, learn what engineers do, how they use STEM in their jobs, and interact with women in engineering. Registration instructions are included on the flyer and linked here. We will take sign ups through 6/14/24–registrations after 5/31/24 are not guaranteed lunch or a t-shirt. We require students to be accompanied by a parent/guardian/trusted adult at all times. For any questions, please contact us as SWEDetroitGEE@gmail.com.

Important notes repeated from previous weeks:

  • Parents are needed for field day to run an activity on Thursday May 23rd. K-2 9:30-11:00 and/or 3rd-5th 1:30-3:00. Thank you for helping to support this event. Mr. Tapp
  • The 5th grade instrumental concert has been changed to Wednesday, May 22 at 4:30.
  • Graduating seniors that attended DuVall for elementary school are invited to lead our 5th graders in their clap out that occurs right before their promotion ceremony. This is scheduled for Friday, June 7th at 9:45 with the ceremony at 10:00. We are asking that all seniors arrive at DuVall about 9:30 in their caps and gowns. Please pass the word!
  • GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) Preschool applications for 2024-2025 are available at DuVall. If your child will be 4 before December 1, 2024 he/she is eligible. This free program runs Monday thru Thursday, 8:35-3:20 during the school year. DuVall has one classroom with 16 students. There are other classrooms at nearby schools as well. If you are interested stop by the DuVall office for an application and to schedule a registration date and time. You can also call Cotter at 313-827-6150 to ask any questions you may have.
  • Teachers should have been asking for items or monetary donations to complete their class basket for Ice Cream Social. PLEASE support them with this request, if you are able. Teachers often support whatever part of the basket the class doesn’t donate for. It is easier for 20 students to each donate one item or a small donation then it is for one person to create the entire basket.
