Dear DuVall Families,
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated, and attended our annual Pancake Dinner. This is a wonderful, annual event that brings our community together for some fun. A big thank you to our PTA for organizing this event.
Our PTA also sponsored a Kindness Assembly recently. Our students really enjoyed this presentation and were reminded how important it is to “Be Kind!” Ou PTA is always looking for more help. If you can offer even an hour once or twice a year it would be appreciated. As of now we do not have a PTA president next year or anyone to facilitate Book Bingos or Book Fairs. These events will not take place next year if we don’t have anyone step up. If you are interested and have questions, please let me know.
This week’s notes:
- To purchase a yearbook go to: https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/order/Lookupjob?jobnumber=14536124 The cost is $13.00.
- We are looking for donations and volunteers for our Tea with a Twist. If you are able to help out clock here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084DACAE28A7F8C61-47193550-teatime For those attending, PLEASE bring an old shirt, spron, or smock to wear over your clothes. The paint will NOT wash out. Registration for this event is now closed.
- Reminder: We have small notes in the office where you can write a message to your child or a staff member. These little pick me ups help more than you realize, especially during the winter blues.
- Set sail for an aquatic adventure by registering for our Cardboard Boat Race, Saturday, February 17, at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center. STEP 1: SIGN UP – Register for our Cardboard Boat Race, and learn more about our event by clicking here. The entry fee, which is for a captain and one crew member, is $15 for members at The Center and for city family members, $20 for Dearborn residents and $25 for non-residents. Additional crew members are $5 a piece. STEP 2: BUILD DAY (OPTIONAL) – Join us to design and construct your engineering marvel. We’ll provide two rolls of duct tape, scissors, and a ruler. You provide any other need materials, along with your creativity and engineering prowess. We’ll store it for you until race day. STEP 3: RACE DAY – Compete for awards. Our three categories of competition are (1) parent and child (age 12 or under), (2) ages 13-17, and (3) ages 18 and over. We’ll hand out awards for fastest time, first to sink, and most artistic.
- Voter February 27! The Operational Millage brings $41 million into our General Fund budget; that is 16% of the budget. Without this funding, the district would sink to one of the lowest per-pupil general fund revenues in Michigan. This is a millage renewal, not a new tax. The Operational Millage is part of the General Fund, which is used for daily operations. This money pays for staff, utility bills, classroom supplies, busing, etc. This is NOT A BOND proposal. This would not fund any major school construction or renovation projects. If the Operational Millage Renewal does not pass, the district would need to cut $41 million from the budget. A 16% cut in daily expenses and would likely result in reductions in almost all programs and staffing areas. Residents can learn more about the Operating Millage Renewal on the district website. An explanation of the ballot language is also available.
