Dear DuVall Families,
December’s Penguin Practice is Generosity. We have two collections going on over the next two weeks. We do not expect everyone to give for everything but am asking, whoever can, donate at least one item for one collection. See in the notes for specifics about the collections. We are trying to teach our children to care for others and this is one way they can learn that trait.
Thank you to everyone who helped out at Friday’s Lock-in. I truly appreciate you being there for our school. Our PTA and everyone who works their events are volunteers. They are parents and family members willing to give of themselves to benefit our school. We ask that every parent volunteer and/or donate for at least one event. We have many events that need volunteers. This week we need help in our book fair and for Sip and Shop. Our ice cream social, scheduled for May 31st, is our biggest event of the year. This is an after school event. It is our hope those parents that cannot volunteer during the day can help out at this event or another after school event. Thank you for considering how you can help at your child’s school.
This week’s notes:
- This week we begin our December countdown to winter break. It is just for fun and participation is optional. On most days, we tried to include colors to wear each day so child can easily participate if they would like to. This calendar was finalized by our school Ambassadors and can be viewed here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rl1GCId8IpSHHG7NmWCS1mXP-tHHenVEbkZxU3Vs2MM/edit?usp=sharing
- Between December 4-15, we are collecting mittens, scarves, and hats. If you would like to donate any gently used or new items please send them in with your child. If you have gently used coats, we will make sure those get donated to a needy group as well.
- We are also collecting items for Veterans by grade level. Kindergarten– Deodorant (Non-aerosol) First Grade– Shampoo and Conditioner (travel size/2oz) Second Grade– Combs and Lotion (travel size/ 2oz) Third Grade– Toothpaste and Dental Floss Fourth Grade– Toothbrushes Fifth Grade– Puzzle Books. This collection is also December 4-15.
- Students are not allowed on the playground when there is snow unless they are wearing snow pants and boots. They can still play on the blacktop because it will be plowed.
- Out students go outside when the wind chill is above 20 degrees. It’s good for them to get some fresh air. Please make sure they have the appropriate winter clothing on. In the classroom, I suggest they bring a lightweight zip-up jacket or sweater.
- PLEASE write your child’s name on their belongs. This includes hats, gloves, snow pants, lunch boxes, coats, backpacks, etc.
- Please notice on the below schedule that the Safety meeting has been changed from Monday to Wednesday at 8:30.
- Thank you to all of the families that have put an ornament on our tree. We have many handmade ornaments and some that display something special about the family.
- Hundreds of children’s nonfiction books will be $0.25 each at the Friends of the Library – Dearborn (FOLD) used book sale on Dec. 13. Nearly all of the books are children’s nonfiction that will be for sale. Details: Wednesday, Dec. 13, 10 am – 6 pm at Henry Ford Centennial Library 16301 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI 48126
- Please follow the traffic rules around school. Unfortunately, the ticket for turning left between 8:30-9:30 or 3:30-4:30 is $130.
