DuVall Elementary School

Week of February 20-24

Dear DuVall Families,

I hope everyone had a great long weekend! Our students and staff work hard and it’s nice for them to have a long weekend to relax, have some fun, and energize during the cold, dark inter months.

We are having a problem with a large number of absences, tardiness, and leaving early for many students. We are happy when students make up missing work but they miss instruction when they are not in school which can be the reasons for gaps of understanding of content for many of our students. Our instruction begins at 9:00. If students are late even 10 minutes per day that is 3 hours and 20 minutes of missed instruction per month. We have a number of students that have missed the equivalent of over a month of school. I realize that there are times when students need to stay home fo illness or leave early for appointments. There are also mornings that are tough and students will be late. Please reflect on your child and if these things are happening too often try to correct them. I am happy to print out an attendance report for you if you would like to analyze the number of days your child was absent, tardy, or left early. Truancy letters will also be going out this week for some students as a reminder to parents that their child has reached a level that may be harmful to their education. If you have any questions, please let me know.

This week’s notes:

  • Moms & Muffins is on Friday, 8:15-8:45. We will serve juice, milk, and muffins in the cafeteria. This is a time for moms to spend with their children. Come enjoy conversation with your children.
  • Mrs. Morrison & Mrs. Meyer are back in their classrooms this week. Mrs. Press (room 101) & Mrs. Grahl (Media Center) have relocated for the next three weeks. The locker rooms will also be done at the same time. They are the last classroom teachers to be relocated. Art / S.T.E.A.M. and the gym are next on the list. That should complete the relocating that will happen during the school year.
  • Park & Pool will be June 13.
  • We are averaging one Watch Dog per week. If you are interested in helping out please come in and sign-up on our big calendar in the hall. If you have been a Watch Dog and have suggestions to improve this program, please let me know.

Have a great week!

Mary Timpf
