DuVall Elementary School

Week of September 5-9

Dear DuVall Families,

We had a wonderful first week of school. Our students and staff are happy to be back and there are smiles everywhere you look. Parents also seem happy to be back, reconnecting with each other before and after school and having smiles as big as their children. Thank you for trusting us with your most valuable commodity, your children. We promise to work hard to meet their academic and emotional needs. We appreciate your support. Together, as partners, we will make your child’s school year successful and enjoyable.\

Thursday is Open House. Each teacher, grades 1-5 will hold a short meeting. Times and room numbers will be on fliers at Doors 1, 5, and 8. These meetings are to communicate classroom expectations and answer questions. Please remember, Open House is a time to visit DuVall, visit your child’s classroom, and meet your child’s teachers. This is not a time for a conference. If you need to discuss anything in detail with your child’s teacher, please schedule a time to meet with them. Our PTA will be signing parents up for membership. We are looking forward to a great year with lots of participation. We have a new PTA board that is excited and will be looking for help. They will also be selling spirit wear. Please look for their table. We have also left up our DuVall backdrop for one last chance at back to school pictures.

As we did last year, every month we will focus on a different “Positive Penguin Practice.” These practices were chosen by our teachers and are displayed on our lobby tree. The teaching of these practices are carried through all areas of our school and by all staff. Students learn and apply these practices and can also earn Penguin Tags for showing these characteristics are part of their daily behaviors. September the practice we are focusing on is kindness and Friday is our Day of Kindness. Please ask your children what kindness means to them and how they can be kind to others. Remember, it’s the little things that count and make the biggest difference.

A few other notes:

  • Please send in a water bottle with your child. We have two hydration stations for your child to fill their bottles as needed.
  • Please update your child’s emergency information. We have already come across phone numbers that are no longer in service. Click here for an earlier post for directions to update online: https://duvall.dearbornschools.org/2022/08/17/emergency-information-update/ or you can call Kim or Bobbie in our office and give them your updated information.
  • Students will earn Penguin Tags again this year. This week we will pass out new grade tags and give our new students their chain and Leo tag along with their grade tag. Many students have already added their tags to their new backpacks. If your child needs a new chain, have them see me.
  • This year we will be participating in the Walk/Bike to School Program. This program is designed to get more students physically active by either walking or biking to school when and if possible. Teachers have fliers with more information about students signing up. Mr. Tapp will be sending home permission slips to all interested students this week. He will then sign them up into the Wall n Roll Schoology course. This program begins Monday, September 12th.
  • I am looking for a couple of parents to help us beautify our school. If you would be willing to plant mums in our containers, please contact the office.
  • Mrs. Ross and I are also looking for someone that could make bench seat and back cushions. We will pay for all of the materials. Do we have any seamstresses that could help us out?

Thank you for all that you do!

Have a great week,

Mary Timpf
