Dear DuVall Parents and Guardians,
As the start of the 2020-21 school year quickly approaches, I would like to welcome your family to DuVall Elementary School. During this past spring, our school community pulled together to make learning accessible for all students during the COVID 19 shutdown. As I write this letter, we still continue to move in uncharted territory and there will be changes in terms of how we operate following the recommendations from health professionals in order to stop the spread of COVID 19. The staff and I appreciate your patience, support, and perseverance as we continue to work in partnership with your family to help all of our students learn the essential skills and standards of our curriculum.
Despite the changes and challenges we faced as a community this spring, I hope you and your family have been able to have a safe and healthy summer and are excited about the return to DuVall for the new school year. The purpose of this letter is to welcome everyone back and keep you up to date with information your family will need for the upcoming school year. This letter will also provide you with an official district calendar and to update your family on current guidelines and procedures that need to be followed on the first day of school and throughout the school year. It is very important to take the time to read through these updates to stay informed of our policies, procedures, and guidelines so that we can continue to provide a safe, healthy, and stimulating education for all students.
End and start times have been amended for remote learning as we start the new school year. The new times for remote learning are 8:55 am-3:50 pm and from 8:55 am-12:00 pm on half days. Students are expected to be online where they will be live with their classroom teacher at 8:55 am daily.
Our first week of school (8/31-9/3) will all half days from 8:55 am – 12:00 pm, in order for students and families to have an orientation as well as a curbside pick up of learning materials for the new school year. Stay tuned for orientation dates/times as well as how information on student placement will be shared with families.
Below is the link to the 2020-2021 school year calendar. Please note that the first week of the school calendar has been amended to all half days to provide teachers with additional planning and collaborative time as well as time for orientation. https://dearbornschools.org/services/district-calendars/.
I am very proud to continue our school’s tradition of excellence in education. Despite the changes we faced in the spring, we plan to build upon our success from last school year. Some of our points of Penguin Pride from the past school year were the outstanding student growth in NWEA RIT scores, Evergreen status as a Michigan Green School, and different curriculum nights which are boosted by the outstanding parental support with a strong commitment on the part of the PTA. More information about upcoming school events, clubs, and activities will be posted on the DuVall School News Blog. By working together as a school community, we will continue to have a positive impact in the lives of students attending our school.
I look forward to working with all of the students, their families, and community members as we unite together to further enhance the outstanding school program at DuVall Elementary during the 2020-21 school year. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
