Duvall School Programs

Art Classes

Teacher: Mrs. Doman

I see lower elementary students once a week and upper elementary sudents twice a week in Room 105. I offer an after school art club for upper elementary students on Tuesdays from 3:40-4:40. DuVall is very supportive of the arts and we have a variety of visiting artists throughout the year. Fourth grade students have an opportunity for a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts art museum and last year we visited some artist studio's as well. Students participate in a variety of art shows, an "Empty Bowls" charity event, and this year some of my students will be involved in an art exchange with another school.

Music Classes

Teacher: Lisa Meyer

At DuVall, we believe that music gives students a source of enjoyment which enhances quality of life by engaging the total person in creating and performing, involving the intellect, intuitive, emotional and physical being. The richness of music contributes to higher levels of thinking, learning, and feeling, resulting in students who hear acutley, interpret internally and express creatively.

Physical Education

Teacher: Bryan Tapp

Duvall Physical Education includes two classes a week for grades 4-5 and one class a week for k-3. My goal for the gym is to create a positive environment that promotes and motivates students to increased levels of physical activity while developing an understanding of how to use their bodies effectively in sport and movement. Besides the physical education classes students are also able to participate in two extra-credit progams called Weekend Warriors and Mileage Club along with in class programs that include Jump Rope for Heart and Bowling for Life.

School Psychologist

Teacher: Kristine Bussey, M.A.

School psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students. At Duvall, I am involved with the multi-disciplinary SOS (Save One Student) team, which meets regularly to help parents and teachers develop a plan to help children be more successful in school.

Safety Patrol

Teacher: Joanne Strez

The Safety Patrol provides safe crossing for children on their way to school. The Service Squad provides help with indoor recess, along with other jobs, as needed. Motor Moms and Dads is a series of physical activities which the children perform under the supervision of parents. These activities help develop basic motor skills which are important for early learning success.

  Speech

 Teacher:  Carol C. McAdam, M.S., CCC-SLP

Mrs. McAdam is our speech and language pathologist.  In addition to diagnostic testing in the area of communication skills, she provides direct therapy in the areas of articulation, voice quality, fluency and language skills.  She is part of the special education team at DuVall working to meet the needs of students.
