Creative Art Theme School

DuVall Elementary is a Creative Arts Theme School, it's in the center for arts, theater, and movement in which it recognizes the future impact of our students potential, nurtures their souls, and enriches their lives. DuVall Elementary is Dearborn's only Creative Arts Theme School and offers students an art-enriched curriculum. Through our "Visiting Artist Program", students have an opportunity to work with a variety of artists.

History of Duvall Elementary School

DuVall is the oldest school in Dearborn; it is located in the heart of Ford Homes Historical District. In embracing the creative arts as the fundamental to its mission, DuVall advocates the intrinsic value of this theme to society and commits itself to building a partnership with the community, and businesses to explore the creative arts to the world. We have just started an art exchange program with French students in France. A number of special events and integration of arts and movement supplement the classroom instruction.

Students are involved in a variety of additional programs throughout the year including a theme night of performances, a community service project "Empty Bowls", a partnership with senior residents at Oakwood Common and a quilt auction fundraiser.

Student art work is displayed in the community at "The Little Cafe" a local business every month. Student work is also exhibited at the Wayne County RESA building, Wendy's restaurant during the Youth Art Month, and the district wide Dearborn Public Art Show in May.

We are providing our students with the best experiences they need to be successful citizens in today's global informational society. We are working closely with parents and the community to create a familiar environment, which encourages every member to be a part of the educational process. We focus on teaching the state standards and benchmarks and integrate technology into our daily lessons. Establishing a reliable assessment system is our goal that will help us measure with a yardstick the objectives we teach or activities we do.

Finally, we do teach students on the basis of love, care, and character. We truly believe that all children can learn, so we differentiate our instruction and use different multiple intelligence strategies to meet the different abilities and learning styles of students.

DuVall's beliefs emphasize the improvements of student performance through the following: * Enhancing student learning through the arts. * Encouraging students and parents to take an active role in education. * Emphasizing student preparation for living and learning in today's society. * Enabling students to make a successful transition from elementary school to middle school.
